Brainspotting Tells the Body It’s Safe to Stop Keeping Score.

You’ve told the story a hundred times. In therapy, to friends, over and over in your head at 2am. You have all the insight you can stand, and yet, you still feel STUCK.

That’s because “understanding” only helps the thinking part of your brain.

Brainspotting heals the nervous system, a place that words can’t quite reach.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a transformative brain-body therapy combines the principles of EMDR and somatic therapy. It is built on the belief that “where you look affects how you feel.”

Brainspotting uses your field of vision to identify “brainspots”, or areas of the brain and nervous system that have physically stored emotional pain.

By holding your gaze in a specific position, you allow your brain to access and reprocess trauma where it actually lives in your body. No storytelling is necessary.

How Brainspotting Works

1. We Find Your Brainspot

Using a pointer, you and your therapist will locate the eye position connected to the activation you're feeling. This is the tension in your chest, the tightness in your throat, the heavy feeling you can't quite name.

2. Your Body Leads the Way

While holding that gaze, you'll notice what comes up. No need to name it out loud. Just focus on the sensation, emotion, memory, or imagery that surfaces. Your therapist stays attuned and present, offering quiet, regulated support as your brain and nervous system get to work.

3. Your Nervous System Resets

Brainspotting taps into the brain's natural capacity for self-scanning and self-healing. Over the course of processing, the activation attached to the memory or symptom begins to soften. Not because you forced it to, but because you gave your nervous system the permission to finally let go.

FAQs

Does Brianspotting really work if I don’t talk about what happened?

1

Yes! This is actually the point of Brainspotting. It is designed for somatic healing of the nervous system, which does not require verbal processing. Your nervous system is designed to process and release trauma without talking through the details. Sometimes we just need a little guidance to get that process going.

How is Brainspotting different than EMDR?

2

Both are brain-body trauma therapies, but Brainspotting is less structured & more client-led. Brainspotting is a great fit for those who have felt that EMDR’s protocol was too rigid, or for those who don’t always want to talk about their feelings.

Is online Brainspotting therapy effective?

3

Yes! Brainspotting translates well to telehealth. Many clients find that processing trauma and emotional pain from the safe space of their home actually enhances the impact of the work.

How many session will I need.

4

This varies by the person and what you are working. Some experience relief after 3-4 sessions; others opt to use Brainspotting as an ongoing part of trauma-informed mental health treatment. We’ll talk through what works best for you during your intake.
